Rius :Anything Can Happen
🎙️ Rius: Lyrical Soul with a Restless Spirit
For Canadian artist Rius, music was never just sound — it was survival. What began as an escape from reality evolved into a craft, a coping mechanism, and eventually, a calling. “At first I used it as an escape… just listening,” he says. But by age 13, freestyling online turned into passion. And by 2021, that passion became something tangible — music creation.
🎧 Shaped by the Greats, But Carving His Own Path
Raised on lyrical legends like Eminem and Kendrick Lamar, Rius first stepped into the game spitting boombap and bar-heavy verses. But evolution came quickly. “After a while, I started playin’ around and never stopped,” he says. Still, Eminem remains a key influence in both lyricism and work ethic — a reminder that technical skill and raw emotion don’t have to exist separately.
“You can’t pinpoint just one person or sound that influences me now — I play around with it all.”
🌍 Nomadic Roots, Grounded Spirit
Born in Vernon, British Columbia, Rius spent his life moving around, from city to city, finally finding some steadiness on Vancouver Island. That lack of deep geographical roots helped him develop a sound not tied to one place — fluid, honest, and emotionally grounded.
📲 Fighting for a Fanbase
One of the hardest battles Rius has faced in his underground journey is the same one many indie artists are all too familiar with: gaining traction. “I been at this social media shit for years,” he says. “Only recently have I noticed a difference.” But through consistency and creativity, he’s beginning to turn the tide — building a core fanbase who understands the emotion behind the lyrics.
🎵 Music with Meaning
Rius doesn’t make background music — he makes escape music. Music that helps people heal, reflect, and regain their sense of self. “I want people to be able to relate, feel good, build confidence… just like music did for me,” he shares. The same emotional lifeline he once held onto is now the one he’s handing to others.
“I started creating my own music to escape to. I want others to be able to do the same if they need.”
🚨 What’s Next?
There’s plenty on the horizon for Rius. He’s currently putting the finishing touches on an Old-School Rap EP, a nod to his roots. And if all goes according to plan, a full-length album will drop before the year ends — giving fans even more of the raw lyricism and emotional edge he’s known for.
🔊 Song Wars Experience
When it comes to community and feedback, Rius doesn’t sugarcoat it: Artist Outlook’s Song Wars and Review shows have been some of the realest. “I’ve made some genuine connections and got some great feedback,” he says — a testament to how important authentic spaces are for developing artists.
